Call for Applications: Civil society participation in the Ministerial Segment round tables

In order to ensure an inclusive, comprehensive and meaningful civil society participation, the Civil Society Task Force (CSTF) has been tasked by CND Resolution 61/10 to select one panelist for each round table discussion covering the following topics: Taking stock and Safeguarding the future

During the Ministerial Segment of the 62nd Session of the Commission of Narcotic Drugs (CND), to be held 14-15 March 2019, the Commission will host two “interactive, multi-stakeholder round tables” covering the following topics:

  1. Taking stock of the implementation of all commitments made to jointly address and counter the world drug problem, in particular in light of the 2019 target date for the goals set in paragraph of the Political Declaration; analysing existing and emerging trends, gaps and challenges.

  2. Safeguarding the future: enhancing our efforts to respond to the world drug problem through strengthening international cooperation, including means of implementation, capacity-building and technical assistance, on the basis of common and shared responsibility.

In order to ensure an inclusive, comprehensive and meaningful civil society participation, the Civil Society Task Force (CSTF) has been tasked by CND Resolution 61/10 to select one panelist for each round table discussion. In addition, the CSTF will also nominate a further two speakers per round table as reserves. It is anticipated that the reserves will also be able to make shorter interventions from the floor, although this cannot be guaranteed and will depend on the time available.

Each panelist will have a maximum of 5 minutes to present his or her work related to the themes above. Interventions from the floor will be permitted a maximum of 3 minutes.

Selected speakers will be asked to send in their statements no later than 26 FEBRUARY 2019. Interpretation in official UN languages (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish) will be available at the meeting but all abstracts have to be submitted in English.

In order to apply for a speaking slot, please fill out this form by 11:55 p.m. (CET, Vienna local time) on 06 FEBRUARY 2019. The CSTF will select speakers following the guidelines published on our website, and selected candidates will be notified as soon as possible (no later than 12 FEBRUARY 2019). Video messages will not be possible.

Please note that there is some funding available to cover travel to and accommodation in Vienna. Funding is limited, however, so allocation decisions will be made by the CSTF following the guidelines published on our website: https://www.cstfondrugs.org/documentation/

Please share this form with your respective partners and networks to ensure a wide as possible opportunity to engage.
